Living In A Teardrop Trailer: A Big Adventure In A Small Space.

After years of looking at campers and trailers, and a dream of selling it all and traveling around North America I finally did it! Now of course, this didn't just happen over night. The first big step was selling my house and leaving my job almost two years ago. Since then, I've been traveling, doing contract work, learning as much as I can about content creation, blogging, photography and which mode of transportation would work best for me. There are many ways to live on the road; vanlife, truck camper, RV, fifth wheel and so on. I would have loved the chance to try all of them, but like many people new to this life, money is tight and I couldn't afford to invest in more than one. Over the years the one mode of transportation I kept coming back to was the teardrop trailer.
I knew I didn't want to buy anything huge that required buying a larger truck to tow it with and I didn't want to mess with black and gray water tanks. And let's face it, teardrop trailers are just cute as hell! I settled with Hiker Trailers because of the affordable upfront costs and ability to upgrade and make changes as I had the money. Initially, I'd planned on ordering one straight from the factory, but as luck would have it a brand new one, built almost identically to the one I would have ordered, was for sale just down the road from my house. I took that as a sign from the Universe that it was finally time to pull the trigger and hit the road. Life has been terrifying and amazing ever since! lol.
Learning to tow a trailer, even a small one like mine, has been...an experience. I have made tons of mistakes, but I've also learned a lot and my confidence is slowly building. I've met some nice people who have helped spot me as I backed into my camp spot for the night and some very gracious people who have shared stories of their own mistakes and helping me feel not so alone in that department. I've started to build a routine living in the trailer. Things are organized and convenient to get to. Decorating and adding personal touches that make it really feel like my space, have made it wonderful to hang out in on rainy or windy days. I've been able to set up an "office" so that I can keep creating videos and photographs, which will hopefully start producing an income sooner than later. Writing this blog from the road has also been unexpectedly amazing. Even though writing has never been something I've enjoyed, detailing the memories of this time in my life has been quite enjoyable and it's been easier than expected to sit down and share my thoughts. I am typically a pretty private person so there have absolutely been times I've hesitated to share details, but I'm always happy I did after I hit publish.
I'm sure as I continue this new, exciting and completely terrifying journey, lol, things will shift and new opportunities I hadn't contemplated will emerge. New adventures, new people and new ways of navigating this life will all come together to create what I hope, is a life I can be proud of creating and sharing with all of you. I am excited to build and find a community with like-minded people, so don't hesitate to say hello if you see me out there on the road enjoying All The Outdoor Things I love.
Thanks for being here,
Katie
